Blackberry's first touchscreen phone is now available at select Croma stores.
The unit is locked to Vodafone and is priced just below Rs.28000.
A quicklist of the Storm's distinctive technology:
- Capacitive touchscreen: the same technology used in the iPhone and the upcoming Palm Pre, different from resistive screens found on Windows Mobile PDAs. Capacitive touchscreens are more sensitive and respond to proximity by sensing electrical changes as opposed to resistive touchscreens that respond to pressure. This also means that the device has no bundled stylus.
- Surepress: this is probably the first device to feature a full touchscreen that can be pressed. Unlike most touchscreen devices that execute an action when it is touched, the option just hovers when you point your finger at it, to execute it, the whole screen has to be pressed. Though this leads to much greater accuracy, typing is a pain since you need to press the whole screen to input every letter. There should be a tweak to turn off the screen-press option though (atleast while typing).
- 3.5mm audio jack, accelerometer and multi-touch support (just like the iPhone)
- 3.2 Megapixel Autofocus Camera: delivers amazing quality photographs.
