Boynq, a relatively young European electronics design firm has set foot in India with Croma.
Boynq is well known for its deviant, lifestyle (read show-off) oriented designs, which becomes apparent when one has a look at the products.
The Vase speaker is actually a vase shaped device that can be connected to any MP3 player, Laptop, desktop or a mobile phone, provided a 3.5mm jack is available in the gadget of choice.
The Vase has a volume control ring located right in the middle of its tubular structure, which can be rotated to increase or decrease sound output. The treble control ring is just above the volume control and the bass ring is below it. The controls are surprisingly effective considering the small size of the sound drivers. The top canopy has a strong orange light emanating from it, which only adds to its appeal. The Vase retails at Croma at just under Rs.1900. It is also available in a USB variant which has a webcam peeping out of the canopy.
The Boynq Ipod dock with alarm clock (or vice versa) is an amazing piece of work, the two bottom panels display the time and come with an alarm function as well, while the top panel acts as a FM tuner. The fourth part comes off and reveals an ipod/iphone dock, the part taken out actually becomes a remote for the docked pod. The unit has a 10x2 watt rms output with bass and treble controls and is recommended for people who love showing off their gadgets and music collections.
Saturn is the name of Boynq's G-sensor based speaker, which just needs to be flipped to turn the power on and off. However, it requires a USB power charger to operate, which is strange since it is targeted as a travel speaker. It can only be used as a travel speaker for laptops where the USB power can come from the computer itself. Audio input is through a standard 3.5mm jack. The sound output is pretty good for its size and is a great replacement option for laptop speakers.
The iCube 2 is an attractive ipod dock with bass and treble controls. which also charges the pod when its docked.
